Models of the criminal law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Models of the criminal law - Essay Example The effect that each of these has on criminal equity is that they are what settles on the equity to be served, on how a criminal will be treated inside the criminal equity framework. These two models are associated with how a criminal is dealt with, including his arraignment, protection, and condemning. The idea of equity is characterized by both of these models. Issues emerge between the various associations when they can't arrive at a resolution that underpins the thoughts of all gatherings included. The contention model can be seen between jail authorities and cops. While the police are increasingly worried about getting all lawbreakers imaginable off the road and into a jail, away from the general population, the jail authorities are worrying about the conceivable congestion of detainment facilities, which could make them discharge crooks back to the lanes. Neither one of the parties can accomplish what they need to without conflicting with the desires of the other party. In this situation, it turns out to be just about a chain response of crooks being gotten, at that point discharged, at that point perhaps got again on the off chance that they are sentenced for another wrongdoing. The agreement model can be found with respect to the court framework and the cops (Walker, 2004). The objectives of the two frameworks is to catch, attempt, and rebuff the hoodlums. They cooperate to ensure that they arrive at their concept of what equity is; they are equipped for cooperating to get the ideal outcomes. The agreement model shows that these various gatherings and associations can help out one another, working around and progressing in the direction of that one shared objective that they share. The model that best speaks to the criminal procedure in this nation is the contention model. The various associations engaged with the criminal equity framework are continually at closes with attempting to choose what is correct or what's going on, and what discipline ought to be given. Borderline Personality Disorder and Lying

It can ruin trust and intimacy and foster resentment. Many times, the people who feel deceived will cut ties completely with the person they believe to have lied. The Concern of People With BPD and Lying Unfortunately, borderline personality disorder (BPD) is not a well-known or well-understood disease. Even so, many people believe lying is part of the disorder. However, you may be surprised to learn that the link between BPD and deceit is not so clearly defined. In fact, if you review the symptoms of BPD, lying is nowhere to be found. In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Illnesses-5th edition, which is the standard source healthcare providers use to make appropriate diagnoses, deceit is not part of BPDs diagnostic criteria.?? However, that doesnt necessarily mean that those with BPD do not lie or that they arent more likely to lie. In fact, many family members and friends of those with BPD cite lying as a major concern in their relationship with their BPD loved one. Why Lying Occurs in BPD There are a few potential reasons as to why lying may occur in people with BPD. Intense Emotions People with BPD feel incredibly intense emotions. These feelings can be so intense that they cloud the individuals thinking, making them view things through an emotional lens that may be different from how other people see it. They look for details that confirm what they feel and ignore facts that will contradict them, and this can be incredibly frustrating for friends and family members. Its important to understand that the person with BPD isnt consciously lyingâ"he truly believes his viewpoint is correct even when its blatantly false. Impulsivity BPD is also associated with impulsivity, the tendency to do things without thinking about the consequencesâ"so some instances of lying may be the result of a person with BPD just not thinking before giving a response. Shame In addition, people with BPD often experience deep and entrenched shame, so lying may be one way to conceal mistakes or weaknesses that increase shameful feelings. People with BPD are often also very sensitive to rejection, so one function of lying could be to âcover-upâ mistakes so that others will not reject them. Biology of Lying Based on a sophisticated imaging technique called functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), researchers have found that deception is linked to activation of the prefrontal cortex, which lies at the very front of the brain.?? The prefrontal cortex plays an important part in determining a persons personality, planning cognitive tasks, and regulating social and emotional behavior. Interestingly, this activation of the prefrontal cortex has been found to occur whether the deception is related to emotional or neutral deception (for example, lying about something to avoid a negative reaction or out of fear versus lying about what you ate for breakfast).?? However, the basis of the lying, like whether the lying is meant to help or harm the person doing the lying, may affect whether other regions of the brain are affected. Lying and the Impact on Relationships No matter why a person with BPD lies, whether its because he truly thinks his skewed worldview is correct or if hes feeling ashamed, the impact on relationships can be extremely detrimental. Friends and family members may no longer trust the person, isolating them away from their loved ones. Finally, lying can destroy relationships completely. Even loving and devoted family members may feel they have to separate from their loved ones if lying has become common. This can eliminate an essential support system and harm both people. A Word From Verywell In the end, it can be difficult to maintain a relationship with a friend or family member with BPD. However, its important to understand that people with BPD often engage in destructive behaviors not because they intend to hurt you but because their suffering is so intense they feel they have no other way to survive. Lying may be one example of this. While that doesnt excuse the behavior, if you understand the cause, you can help your loved one get appropriate therapy to help manage their symptoms of BPD.

Douglas vs Stowe - 1650 Words
Experience Prevail Over Fiction Before the Civil War, America was plagued with a complicated social quandary that incorporated individual, societal, political, economic, and religious principles. Its authorship includes Frederick Douglass and Harriet Beecher Stowe who dually challenges the legitimacy of slavery in their literature. While both Harriet Beecher Stoweââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Uncle Tomââ¬â¢s Cabin,â⬠and Frederick Douglasââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Narrative of the Life of an American Slave,â⬠offer impelling accounts, regarding the historical slavery era throughout the 1800s, the two authors write from distinctive experiences. Stoweââ¬â¢s Uncle Tom, a fictional character, attracts his audience through his profound Christian faith, which gives him an unbreakable spirit thatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Douglassââ¬â¢s primary target audiences are those from the North, in favor of convincing the abolitionists to produce a change. Stoweââ¬â¢s intention is to convince her northern audience that slavery was evil and could no longer be acceptable. The importance of deconstructing both of these anti-slavery acclamations is that they should make the reader think passionately while learning about the difficult struggles all black people had to endure during this unruly period in history. Although Frederick Douglassââ¬â¢s disposition against slavery is expected of him since he is a former slave, he backs up his statements with convincing explanations. A prime example of Douglassââ¬â¢s bitterness towards slavery is the fact that as a boy, he experienced no love or affections; that is until his master sent him to Baltimore to live among relatives. On page 1195, Douglas shares his experience with his new mistress, ââ¬Å"And here I saw what I had never seen before; it was a white face beaming with the most kindly emotions; it was the face of my new mistress, Sophia Auld. I wish I could describe the rapture that flashed through my soul as I beheld it.â ⬠What Douglass believes is the opportunity to be finally treated with goodness and affections by a motherly figure, backfires on him in a short matter of time. Methods of Personality Research à Clinical vs. Experimental
The development of personality has long been an area of extreme interest to psychologists and psychoanalysts alike and many different theories of personality have developed over the years. From Sigmund Freud to B.F. Skinner, everyone seems to have not only an opinion of what personality is and how it develops but also an idea as to what is the best way to measure and report their findings. Is there pride in serving in our military free essay sample
When it comes to the U. S. Military, define pride as being proud of something one does or accomplishes every day, or one who finds pride In their country. There is a man, he did not serve in the military long. But he learned a lot in his 8 years of serving. He served when there was really no war for America to fight in, so he was never deployed, but he still learned a lot about how the military works. This man that I am speaking of is my father. And yes, I asked him the exact question that I am answering for you today. Is there pride In serving In our military? He did not understand what was asking at first. But then I explained to him that the question is basically asking, should and American be proud to serve in the U. S. Military, after I asked him he thought for second. We will write a custom essay sample on Is there pride in serving in our military? or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Then looked at me and said absolutely yes. I fully agree with my father. Now the question is why? Why did I decide to agree? Well, I agree because if someone is serving in the U. S. Military they fight everyday for the largest free country In the world.I find that as something to be very proud of, cause they are willing to fight for the country they love. They are willing to risk their lives for their friends, their neighbors, their family and the men and women whom they have never met who live in the united States of America. These men and women serving are so selfless that they are willing to go to an unfamiliar country in not the best o conditions, away from their friends and families with the possibility of never returning and never seeing them again. This soldier Is fighting on the front line with only their brother or sister in arms to trust with their fife and this soldier is trusted with their life also. This soldier has to wake up every morning to just a picture of their family because they dont get to see their family as often as they like. Some people are saying no to the question, Is there pride In serving In our military I am okay with their opinion. But, their reasoning may be that when a soldier goes into the military and goes to boot camp the commanding officers tear this soldier down emotionally and not try to build t hat soldier back up.I disagree, hen a soldier goes into boot camp, yes, their commanding officers do tear them down. I do agree with that but, they do build them back up with respect for their superiors, respect for God, respect for their family, and respect for their country. So, In conclusion, my answer to the question Is their pride In serving In our putting their lives on the line to give us freedom everyday. It gives me the freedom to be standing in the spot that I am standing in now. It gives you the freedom to have the type of music that is on your pod right now.It gives us all the freedom to be wearing the things we are wearing now. It gives us the freedom to be educated. The freedom to choose our Jobs. The freedom to decide whether or not we want to serve in the military. I could name many more freedoms for you but that would take all day. These men and women that serve or have served at some point in time have every right to have pride. They are selfless enough to fight for me and each and every one of you every single day. These men and women are the reason I am proud to be an American. Thank you.

milfoil in the northwest essays
milfoil in the northwest essays In Northern Idaho weed infestations of lakes, rivers, and streams have been increasing over the last few years. Doug Freeland is the Northern Idaho expert on a particular type of underwater weed, milfoil, that is rapidly spreading through many freshwater sources in Idaho as well as the rest of North America. Freelands expertise has been used by Idaho counties, Washington counties, and the US Forest Service on the particularly nasty weed. Eurasian milfoil, or formally, Myriophyllum Spicatum L, comes from the Latin "mille" and "foille" meaning "thousand leaf." This is an accurate description of the weed; from a thin stem that rises from the bottom of lakes or rivers, many small, delicate green leaves about 2 to 5 inches in length emerge. The stem can continue to grow to the surface of the water and bloom a small flower above the surface for pollination. Eurasian milfoil spreads and grows quickly like dandelions in a lawn, but milfoil presents more of a problem than an eyesore. In some Washington lakes and streams, milfoil is a leading killer of native underwater plant life and native fish. Milfoils chemical processes are poisonous to most fish that try to feed on the plant and other plants cannot compete with its rapid growth. Milfoil has caused even more problems though. Swimmers have become tapped and drowned in some thickly grown infestations in Western Washington. Obviously, milfoil has become an ecological and s afety issue over the past few years. Doug Freeland has been heading the battle in Northern Idaho to control the weed. Milfoil spread is due mostly to humans because boat bottoms, boat motors, fishing equipment, and other water craft catch the milfoil spores or pieces of milfoil and can easily spread the weed to a different body of water. There is a possibility of natural spreading of the weed; for example, spores could attach to the bottom of a duck that flies to another lake or stre ...

Economics (Micro And Macro) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Economics (Micro And Macro) - Essay Example The BAââ¬â¢s main reason for participating in this alliance is the possibility to reduce the ticket prices on air transportation due to the bigger amount of profit. Despite the fact that anti-monopolistic committee allowed the partnership, the airline company Virgin Atlantic sets protests against it. The merge of two big companies will make them monopolists in their service sphere. As mentioned above the bigger profit allows the owners to provide better services, to have upgraded planes, to set lower prices on the tickets and what is even more important ââ¬â to provide the better level of security. The company with average profits will be driven off the market. To fight this injustice they even applied the anti-advertising technique by putting the following message on their airplanes ââ¬Å"No way to BA/AA. The headquarter of a new alliance will be located in London since the controlling interest belongs to BA. Analyzing this article it is necessary to point out several issues that are to be considered in details. The first notion is monopoly since the new alliance represents the monopolistic leader in Europe. Though at the same time considering the whole world where BA+AA will have the third place in volume of passengers transportation, it is necessary to point out that in the scale of the world competition we can observe the monopolistic competition. The second notion that is to be analyzed is merge and strategic alliance in order to identify the type that BA and AA has. In books on economics one can find the following definition of monopoly as: ââ¬Å"If a certain firm is the only one that can produce a certain good, it has a monopoly in the market for that good (Samuelson & Marks, 2003). When studying monopoly in theory it is usually accepted that only one company operates in its industry - it produces and sells the whole volume of products. Though, in life monopoly is represented by a big company that controls the biggest part of

Media Propaganda Hides American Terrorism Essay examples -- September
Media Propaganda Hides American Terrorism à An article in this month's "Stuff" magazine for men, titled "Die American Scum" tells us that the world sucks. It sucks because while Americans have given other countries "Mickey Mouse, burgers and gum, won wars for them, kept the peace and disposed of dictators," all we have gotten in return is terrorism. The article, by John Parrish, goes on to discourage Americans from traveling to 10 "terrorist" countries including Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Colombia and Mexico. à While the article attempts to further the notion that evil terrorists in the rest of the world are out to get innocent Americans, like many other sources of contorted propaganda, it fails to look at why. Through the news, movies and magazines such as "Stuff," we are constantly bombarded with images of Middle Eastern terrorists, Colombian guerrillas or Mexican Zapatistas, all out to hurt Americans. But a look at the United States' own record and at the stereotypes bred by the media reveal that America's actions and policies generate hatred abroad. Furthermore, the image we have of a typical terrorist must be revealed for what it is - pure racism. à Ask any American what country poses the biggest threat to the United States today and most will say Iraq. Even little kids know that Saddam Hussein embodies all that is evil in the world. We see pictures of American flag-burning Iraqis and shudder with fear and confusion. But what do we expect? U.S. sanctions have caused the deaths of millions of Iraqis. How are these deaths different than those caused by so called "terrorists?" Our selfishness gives birth to a dangerous cycle. Sanctions create animosity toward the United States. This hatred may lead to terrorism... ...ontradictory actions that either further or exact terrorism. Obviously, any and all terrorism is bad. But we must open our eyes to America's own terrorist actions and look critically at why countries harbor hatred towards us. I remember watching TV and seeing Serbian youth in the streets last year angrily chanting against Americans as they tore up our country's flag. I felt afraid, but I also felt extremely guilty. à I believe that the citizens of other nations do not want to hate the American people. But when we sit quietly as our government attacks them, either with bombs or sanctions, what can we expect? We must actively resist the stereotypes and untruths that the media have the power to generate. In doing so, we can begin to show the people of other nations that we are on their side and we can decrease some of the hatred that underlies terrorism." Ã

Environmental program Essay
Superfund is an environmental program formed to address abandoned hazardous waste sites. It is also established by the amended Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act of 1980. The law was enacted in the height of the discovery of dumps of toxic wastes in the 1970. The law permits the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to clean up such hazardous locations and to require responsible companies/persons to do clean up or compensate the government for EPA-initiated cleanups. The Superfund cleanup procedure is intricate. It starts on the assessment of the sites and placing them on the National Priorities List, then conduct cleanups on them. Located at 4109 West Linebaugh Avenue in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, the Southern Solvents, Inc. served as a delivery and trade point for tetrachloroethylene. The chemical, which is also known as perchloroethylene or PCE was stored in four aboveground storage tanks in the facility from 1977 to 1985. The facility distributed the chemicals for dry cleaners located within the area. From 1985 to 1989 the facility was leased to P. J. ââ¬â¢s Spa and recently leased to a commercial painting company. The whole property of Southern Solvents, Inc. is about 100 feet wide and 185 feet deep. When the company is still in operations, the aboveground tanks were individually filled from tanker tanks that brought the chemicals to the facility. One former tank had a capacity of 3,000 gallons while the size of the other three is still unknown. It is believed that leaks and spills of tetrachloroethylene happened while the tanks are being filled and emptied. The tetrachloroethylene that spilled and leaked was not contained and eventually goes down into the nearby sandy soil. In 1988, when the facilityââ¬â¢s drinking water well and several private drinking wells nearby, it was positive contamination of tetrachloroethylene and related compounds of trichloroethylene and 1,2-dichloroethan. The Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services advise instantaneously the residents within the area to stop using water from these wells and supplied bottled water to owners and tenants in the area. The Florida Cites Water Department and the Northwest Hillsborough County Utilities have four wells that draw water from an aquifer within 4 miles of Southern Solvents facility. They provide water supply to more than 46,000 people in St. Petersburg, Hillsborough County, and nearby communities. As early as 1994, EPA conducted preliminary assessment of the site and its threat to the community. On July 27, 2000, Southern Solvents site was placed on the National Priorities List (NPL). Various studies then undergoes since the signing of the Superfund Contract that commits the State for 10 percent of the cost for the clean up. Until now, there are only initial steps of chemical oxidation studies and soil vapor extractions are done into the site. Reference: Environmental Protection Agency, Florida. (2009, March 20). In the novel Enders Game by Orson Scott Card, one of the main characters greatest fears is that he would become like his brother, Peter. While on earth, Ender was physically afraid of Peter due to threats that he would kill him. But, when Ender was taken to battle school, he no longer had to be afraid of peter in that way. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Importance Of Individualism In Enders Game" essay for you Create order While at Battle School, Ender had a small, but recurring fear, reinforced by the Battle School computer, of becoming like Peter. Peter is the boy that traps squirrels and skins them until they die. As Major Imbu of Battle school said His brother (Peter) was rejected from this program because hes one of the most ruthless and unreliable human beings weve ever laid hands on. (Card 186 par. 4). Ender has the ability to win in every situation and hates himself for it because he doesnt want to be the ruthless killing machine that he feared for over half his life. Ender is reminded of this when a fantasy game he plays at battle school shows him in a mirror with a reflection of peters face, as his own.à Enders inner struggle is inside him throughout battle school and beyond and he is reminded of it constantly.à à à à à à à à à à à à à à Enders fear started out as physical danger. While he knew Peter would do nothing that would make himself get into trouble (due to the monitor), Peter would disguise it as a game so that Ender would get hurt, but never too much. While Enders sister, Valentine, knows how brutal and cruel Peter can be, she is helpless to stop it because their parents have no idea who Peter really is away from them. When Ender finally got the monitor off, Peter suggested they play, and they do, but this time Peter threatens to kill Ender and Valentine. He would want to but will have to find a better way to do it. Enders comfort during the day is based on the fact that Peter will never disrupt his image in front of anyone except Ender and Valentine. Peter would often verbally abuse Ender, and say things that Ender hated the most. The fact that he was a third and the fact that even though Ender is younger than him he is better, the only reason hes alive is because Peter was so good. Peter had the ability to find his opponents worst fear, then exploit it in the worst way possible. Ender had a similar skill, where he could totally and completely understand his opponents and beat them. In his mind this made him like Peter, a mindless killing machine with no love or compassion. à à à à à à à When Ender moves to battle school the reader gets the impression that theyll neither have to see nor worry about Peter ever again. Then the fantasy game comes into play. In the game the player must pass an impossible challenge, in this case it is a giant who offers you a choice that will always be wrong. Ender finds a way to kill the giant by attacking him instead of choosing. It was not the intended result by ends up killing him anyway. This makes Ender think of all the times where he has been helpless to Peter. Later in the fantasy game Ender encounters a mirror where shows Enders character, and in the mirror it shows Peter as Ender. This embodies Enders internal struggles and fears. By the computer showing him as Peter, it embodies his belief that he isnt any better than Peter, that his birth was a failure and how he hates himself for not just defeating his enemies but destroying them. Ender is brought to command his own army in the game at battle scho ol. While playing this game Ender is never given an advantage only detriments. Less training time, uneven stages, back to back battles, two in one day, even two armies against his. He wins every single one, not just barley as most armies would do, but would win with little to no losses of team members. For Ender this personifies the awareness of his suspicion that he could be an even better killer than Peter could, and that its what Graff and all required to defeat the buggers. à à à à à à à Ender has also experienced some traumatic ordeals that made him feel extremely close to Peter. One of these experiences occurred when Ender was only 6 years old and still on Earth. A boy called Stilson, for unknown reasons, hates Ender for being to smart for his age and for being a third child. He is a bully who traps him in the hallway the day Ender gets his monitor off. Since Stilson knows that the government is no longer watching Ender he proceeds to fight him. Ender fights hard, too hard. He beats stilson and while he is still on the floor ender proceeds to kick him again and again so neither stilson or any of his friends would ever bother him again. After the fight Ender sits by a wall and cries while saying I am just like Peter. Take my monitor away, and I am just like Peter.(Card 143 par. 3) Another boy also fought Ender, but took it more seriously and was intent on killing Ender. The boys name was Bonzo Madrid, and while Ender was in his army at b attle school, Ender disrespected him and Bonzo took it as a serious insult that Ender was even placed in his army and never let go of his animosity. In the fight Ender hits him so hard that Bonzo dosent come back up. After the fight Ender was helped by his friend, who was glad he was safe and was saying bad things about Bonzo when Ender breaks out crying and when asked if he is okay answers, I didnt want to hurt him! Why didnt he just leave me alone!(Card 304 par. 2) In both of these fights it would be the boys last act to fight Ender. What ender dosent realize is that having a multidimensional personality makes him individualized from Peter. When Peter is fighting with someone he just focuses on exposing their weaknesses, while ender is understanding his opponents and feeling compassion for them while simultaneously demolishing them. In the end of the book Ender is tricked into destroying an alien race known as buggers. After he realizes what he has done, Ender goes into a coma-lik e state and dosent wake up. This was the price he paid to learn his lesson of being individual and not being afraid of becoming Peter. à à à à à à à Enders internal struggle was based off the fear that he was no better than or just like Peter.à However after destroying the buggers and being deceived, he understands and loved the buggers. Through the journey of his many experiences Ender comes to realize that the source of his self doubt, that he was like Peter and destroyed without compassion, was false and deceptive. While in reality his compassion and understanding of his foes differentiated him from Peterà which gives him his unique personality and mentality. While his physical fear of Peter evolved into something else his fear of becoming Peter never went away. Even at the place where no one was ever better than he was, Peter followed and haunted him throughout battle school. After he killed all the buggers, ender went into a comma where he had horrible dreams while he continued to think, I never wanted to kill anybody. Nobody ever asked me if I ever wanted to kill anybody. In these dreams, he sees all the things that he has done that made him feel like Peter, in real life and in the fantasy game.à When Ender finally wakes up all his friends are there to help and congratulate him, and he almost kills one of his friends when he goes to wake him up. It is then that he finally realizes that he is a killer and cant change that, so he decides that he wont be like Peter and will have compassion and the mere fact that he has empathy makes him completely different from Peter. In conclusion, Ender shows us an important lesson of individualism and being who you are and not being someone else.
